According to different forum posts here, Photoshop seems to be the most recommended. A short video at Cnet news tells how 2 brothers built this as a hobby. Oscar nominee John Knoll talks to Cnet about how they built the program.

I got Paint Shop pro first because at the time it was what I could afford. Now I have Photoshop too. It is superior in many ways, but I feel everyone really needs to have both. There are some things you can do with Paint Shop Pro that can't be done in Photoshop and visa versa. Personally I need and use them both.
Thanks for the nice link, btw!!

Photoshop is a bit hard at the beginning, but when you are used to it, you discover each day endless possibilities !

Thanks, MySecret, for the link...interesting. Like Cindi, I started out with Paint Shop Pro, then finally got Photoshop a little over a year ago. And, like Cindi, I use both programs.

Thanks seldomseen, clwoods, windoe, & jazzymjr. I have played with a few things in Paint Shop and The Gimp... am now starting to get the bug Its good to get info from skinners that 1 program doesn't do it all. I'm not sure to what extent I will get involved but having been spending time reading tutorials and learning a bit more about graphic programs.
